Event Details

Come and learn some sweet drum rhythms from our guest teacher Mohamed Camara from Guinea, West Africa! The class will be accompanied by Malian artist Bassidi Kone on balafon, a wooden xylophone from West African, with Tara Tucker & Sam Beckman from Drum Up Big providing a solid and grounding groove on dunduns (West African bass drums).

This unique class is open to everyone and will include a 30 minute acoustic recital. You will be introduced to several wonderful West African instruments including the kora and the balafon.

Beginners are welcome! There will be plenty of rhythmic support and we can bring a drum for you.

If you'd rather be a 'fly on the wall' for the class and treat yourself to the recital, there are 20 'Spectator Only' tickets available for $15.

Schedule
Class: 9:30-10:45am
10:45-11:00 tea break
Recital: 11:00-11:30

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from a great teacher with the support of his band members who will play along with you as you learn. After your class and exclusive recital, why not continue on to the MONA Markets where you can watch Mohamed, Bassidi and friends perform on the main stage from 1-4pm
