Description

City of Stirling invites you to attend an information session on Africa and African communities followed by a delicious traditional African lunch. At this session you will learn about how diverse people of African background are. There will be presentations on the five regions of Africa, as well as information on how you can deliver culturally appropriate services to African refugees and migrants.

Topics will include:

• Regions of Africa

• Different ethnic groups

• Religions

• Cultural practices – sensitivities

• The journey – why Africans come to Australia

• What happens when Africans get here (impact of migration)

• What challenges Africans experience when settling

• How can we support community participation

• How can we provide culturally appropriate services

• Personal stories from African migrants and refugees
