Event description

Description

Handmade cameras like the Afghan Box Camera have been in use around the world for at least 120 years, sitting on the margins of official photographic history. This demonstration by Dr. Andrew Dearman will show how easy it is to use this camera, which is made specifically for street portraiture.

This demonstration is part of our Open Day program, so you can drop in and out at any time between 1pm - 5pm to see Dr. Dearman at work. You can ask questions, observe the process up-close, learn how Dr. Dearman made his camera by hand, and you may even be invited to sit for a portrait!

Dr. Andrew Dearman is a practising visual artist and Head of Art History and Theory at Adelaide Central School of Art. Visit his Facebook page here.
