Advanced digital research workshop

Solid proficiency in the use of multiple digital information resources is one of the critical skills required of today’s scholars. In this session, we’ll build upon the foundations of Digital Research and propel your skills to the next level. You’ll focus how to analyse a topic and formulate effective research strategies; improve your search syntax and terminology; use Boolean operators, wildcards and truncators; and critically evaluate the information sources you discover.

In this workshop, build upon the foundations of Digital Research through an informal assessment of your information needs and evaluation of potential sources of discipline-based materials across the information landscape. Discover effective search strategies, how to keep up to date with research in your field and quick activities to aid in information seeking for the formation of a research question. Explore databases and scholarly resources within the ANU Library collection to embark on information gathering for your literature review.

Once completed, we encourage you to attend Internet Research, a workshop designed to open your mind to the possibilities for scholarly research using the internet.

Alternately, you may like to consider attending our two stand-alone EndNote X8 sessions, which will enable you to create a working library of scholarly sources, and harness the power of this widely-used citation management software. In addition, we’ll teach you how to format your papers in a broad variety of different academic writing styles, and collaborate with other scholars and researchers, at home and around the globe.

This 1.5 hour training workshop is conducted using Windows PCs, however you’re free to use your own mobile device, if you wish.
