Advanced Course for Nurses: Managing Withdrawal

Alcohol and other drug withdrawal can be complicated by a range of issues including poly drug dependence, ethical dilemmas, and coexisting physical and/or mental health conditions. This course is for Registered Nurses across Queensland wanting to develop their knowledge and skills to enable assessment and management of patients experiencing complex withdrawal syndromes. The workshop will utilise didactic presentations linked to practical examples. Course content will focus on the Queensland Alcohol and Drug Withdrawal Guidelines, and include complex withdrawal scenarios often faced within treatment settings.
Facilitator: Rod Jones, Nurse Educator + guest presenters
To be eligible for this training participants must hold a current nursing registration with AHPRA,and either:
a) Have already attended the Insight Introductory Course for Nurses and completed the 6 Insight AOD Induction Modules, and/or
b) Be currently employed in a direct AOD Nursing role
Completion of the 4 Core Skills Insight Workshops is also highly recommended (Understanding Psychoactive Drugs, AOD Clinical Assessment, Introduction to Motivational Interviewing and Relapse Prevention and Management).
