This Masterclass workshop is a bridging course to fulfil the PBA requirements of current Board approved supervisors in all areas of endorsement. It will explore recent changes to guidelines, forms, procedures and requirements in 4+2 and 5+1 pathways, higher degrees and endorsed pathways in a cutting edge evidence based interactive workshop aimed at delivering experiential learning based on 4 key principles

ABOUT THE TRAINER

Duane Smith,

Duane Smith

Duane is a registered Counselling Psychologist who has been practicing for over 25 years.
He completed a Bachelor Psychology Degree at the University Of Western Australia at the age of 22 and became involved in the development of CanTeen; The Australian Teenage Cancer Patients Society (Adolescent Mental Health, Grief and Loss) in Western Australia and worked with the organization for over 5 culminating in receiving the West Australian Young Achiever of the Year Award for Community Service. Over the following 9 years Duane worked in the roles of Senior Counsellor and Team Leader with The Richmond Fellowship (WA) (Adult Mental Health) and Senior Counsellor, Team Leader and Service Co-ordinator at Youth Focus (Adolescent Health, Suicide and Self Harm).

At the age of 35, Duane completed a Masters of Psychology (Counselling Psychology) at Curtin University and gained the endorsed practice area of Counselling Psychologist in 2003. Duane has been in private practice for over 18 years seeing adolescent, adult, couple and family clients with a variety of complex life issues and moderate to severe mental health presentations including complex co-morbity and psychopathology.

Duane is the owner/director and senior clinical manager of The Henry Street Centre in Fremantle and the Specialist Psychological Outreach Team (SPOT).

Duane/SPOT continues to provide psychological services, staff supervision, training and clinical consultation to many agencies including Youth Focus, St Johns Horizon House, CPFS, 360 Health and Community, Wanslea Family Service, PICYS, Fairbridge WA, Safe Places for Children, St Johns Ambulance, RUAH and Headspace.

Duane also has a passion for supervision and specialises in reflective and deliberate practice principles with all his supervisees. Duane has been supervising 4+2, Higher Degree placement students and Area of Endorsement (Counselling Psychologists) for over 14 years.

Duane has collaboratively developed the AHPRA/ PBA approved training workshop “Advanced Clinical Supervision Masterclass -Translating Professional Competencies into Client Outcomes”

To insure an optimal learning environment, registration is limited to 20. In the event that registeration does not exceed 10 participants, the workshop will be rescheduled to the next available date. Cancellations are automatically registered in the next scheduled training. Alternatively, seats for the training can be transferrable to another colleague. A 50% refund will be made if requested 75 days prior to the scheduled event.

Who is this course for?

This masterclass is specifically for board-approved supervisors in Australia. According to the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA), "To maintain Board approved supervisor status, additional training will need to be completed every five years." For example, if you were a board approved supervisor at the 1st of July 2013, you must complete the masterclass training by 1st of July 2018.


How is this workshop offered by SPOT different from other masterclass supervision workshops?

As this workshop is mandatory for supervisors every five years, we will provide updates on the PBS guidelines competency requirements so that you will be up to speed.

...And we are not going to stop there! We figured that you'd invest one day's worth of your time, we are going to over deliver!

We will be taking you beyond by introducing the pragmatics of using a client outcomes approach, coupled with the recent global development of applying the key tenents of deliberate practice in our profession. (see one of our trainers peer-reviewed publications on the topic of routine outcomes monitoring and deliberate practice)

Is there a group discount rate?

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

If you are driving, you can finding parallel parkings around Henry St and High St on the street. Alternatively, you can find a full-day parking near the Woolstore, which is a 10min walk to Henry Street Centre.

If you are talking public transport, the Fremantle Train Station is a 10 min walking distance from the venue.
