This is part of a series focused on providing palliative care education for staff working in residential aged care.

Target Audience: All clinical and management staff in residential aged care homes.

Education Overview:
There is an increasing emphasis from government agencies and healthcare providers to improve the completion rates of advance care planning (ACP) documents. This webinar will highlight the challenges of balancing community expectations with the right of individuals to make autonomous decisions regarding their health and personal care.

This education will clarify the role of staff in embedding ACP into practice, ensuring it benefits both residents and staff in supporting the provision of person-centred care. It will also highlight how Residential Goals of Care (RGoC) and an Advance Health Directive (AHD) can be used in conjunction to guide decision-making.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand the challenges in balancing community expectations with individuals' rights to make autonomous health and personal care decisions.
  2. Recognise the role of each Advance Care Planning (ACP) document.
  3. Understand the importance of ACP in supporting person-centred care and respecting patient autonomy.


Department of Health-End-of-Life and Palliative Care Education and Training Framework

The End-of-Life and Palliative Care Education and Training Framework is a tool outlining the essential knowledge and skills for healthcare professionals caring for those with end-of-life needs. It consists of three domains: Principles of Practice, Clinical Management, and Leadership/Management. Each domain's learning items are categorised into three expertise levels: Foundation, Consolidation, and Extension, forming a continuum of learning.
