Cartooning with Gary Clark (Adults)

Join Cartoonist Gary Clark in this workshop teaching the foundations of the creative process for cartooning – from idea development to finished comic page. This workshop combines cartooning demonstrations with fast paced interactive learning to teach the basics and learn from the creative process. Participants will develop their own cartoon characters and walk away with a finished comic page.

This workshop is part of the program for the exhibition Sunshine Rebooted: the final Bjelke-Petersen Cabinet Minutes, on display at Queensland State Archives from 25 May - 16 November 2018.

Participants must be aged 18 and over. (A children's workshop is also scheduled for 27 September 2018)

Materials: All materials supplied and covered by the workshop fee.

About Gary Clark

Back in 1981, Gary Clark could not have envisaged his Swamp Cartoon would be published across Australia and Europe and have a global reach in social media. When Swamp was first published in the Sunshine Coast Daily, this lays the foundation for the creation of over 13,000 cartoons. Countless cartoon books have been published here and in Europe.

The most popular characters, Ding Duck, Flight Instructor and the Air Traffic Controller are known in aviation circles worldwide. Even the French Airforce incorporated Ding Duck cartoons in their English Language studies.

Gary has inspired thousands of children and adults in drawing and thinking creatively through cartoon workshops. In the Northern Territory, two Swamp cartoon books were translated into an Aboriginal language to teach young Indigenous children to read.

He has amassed many awards for his work: 14 Stanley Awards for Best Comic Strip Artist, 11 accolades from Rotary Cartoon Awards, a nomination for Export Achievement by the Queensland Government.
