Event description

Description

What is the ADOS-2?

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Edition (ADOS-2) is a semi-structured, standardised assessment of communication, social interaction, and play. It provides a series of standardised contexts in which the individual’s social, communication and repetitive, stereotyped behaviours can be observed. It has been designed to assist in the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder and is suggested as a complementary instrument to the Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised (ADI-R). Standardised toys and activities are used to present opportunities for social and communicative interaction with the examiner. During these activities, observation of the individual notes the absence or presence of behaviours of interest. A diagnostic algorithm consistent with DSM and ICD-10 clinical diagnoses is generated.

Who is the training for?

Mental health clinicians, child & adolescent psychiatrists, paediatricians, speech pathologists, psychologists, occupational therapists.

What does the training include?

The two-day workshop (9.00 a.m.– 5.00 p.m.) provides an introduction to the ADOS-2 as an assessment tool, and is a first step in the process for establishing reliability. It uses a mixture of large group lecture, demonstration, and scoring, as well as DVD demonstration of the ADOS-2. Note: Training does not include the Toddler Module.

Prior to attending the workshop, you will be emailed a pre-course information pack. This will contain information about the venue and catering, and some reading materials. It will also include an online link to two ADOS-2 administrations for you to watch prior to attending the course. This task is to help familiarise yourself with the administration of the ADOS-2 so you get the most out of the workshop.

About the Trainer: Deborah Sweeney

Deborah has been using the ADI-R and ADOS in complex, multi-disciplinary assessments for over 12 years and regularly trains health professionals in the ADI-R and ADOS throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided.
