Overview

This one day workshop gives a comprehensive introduction to the Coopertaive Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities (CRCWSC) "Adoption Guidelines for Stormwater Biolfiltration Systems".

The workshop will guide participants towards key content in the guidelines including: what is a biolfiltration system, how do they function and what are ther benefits. Participants will also work through key considerations for design, construction, handover, operation and maintenance. The workshop will also debunk some of the myths around biofiltrations systems.

Participants will also be introduced to other useful resources referenced in the guidelines including those developed by Healthy Land and Water (formerly Water by Design).

By the end of this workshop particpants will:

- Have a good understanding of the content of the guidelines and can navigate easily to relevant information
- Understand what a biofiltration system is, how it functions and what are the benefits
- Understand the different types of biofiltration systems and it what contexts they can be used
- Understand key considerations for designing biofiltration systems at the concept stage
- Identify and rectify common issues associated with design, construction, handover, operation and maintenance of biofiltrations systems

Practitioners seeking a better understanding of biofiltration systems including asset and civil engineers, development assessment officers, landscape architects, environmental officers and planners.

About the Presenter - Sally Boer

Sally is a founding Director of E2Designlab and an experienced urban water management practitioner well versed in water sensitive urban design, aquatic ecosystem remediation and the design of stormwater management systems through to delivery. With a background in freshwwater ecology and 17 years experience spanning research and consultancy, Sally enjoys sharing this knoledge through capacity building.

Sally is a contributing author to industry guidelines on water sensitive urban design and has presented numerous capacity building workshops. This has included the "Bioretention Retention Technical Design Guidelines" and associated training with Healthy Land and Water. As active industry partners with the CRCWSC and the previous Facility for Advancing Water Biofiltration, E2Designlab has a focus on demonstrating the latest thinking by putting research into practice. As a member of the QLD Regional Advisory Panel, Sally is helping to guide knowledge generation, translation and adoption initiatives.
