Description

ADOHTAVIC will be hosting a student careers evening on 25th September for all Oral Health Therapy and Dental Hygiene students across Victoria. Three speakers will be presenting on their experience in the Victorian oral health work force, with two of the speakers providing view points of what potential employers will be looking for in graduates. A short panel discussion will take place at the end for students to ask any questions.

Date: 25th September 6PM-8PM
Location: Multi-Purpose Room 1, Kathleen Symes Library
Cost: FREE
Food provided: Pizza will be provided. Please advise of dietary requirements, the organising committee will endeavor to accommodate food allergies and intolerances, where we are unable we will advise those affected prior to the event.

Our speakers and topics are:

Experienced OHT - Radhika Arasu

Completing her Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy in 2007 at The University of Melbourne, Radhika Arasu has worked in both the public and private dental sectors. Radhika provides dental therapy and dental hygiene services in both her current positions and has been a clinical demonstrator at Knox Community Health and The University of Melbourne for undergraduate students.

Radhika will speak about the benefits and challenges she has experienced in both sectors and the importance of maintaining a good work life balance.


Employer from the Public Sector -
Claire Mustchin

With an extensive career history in the public sector, Claire Mustchin is a strong advocate for public dentistry. A current clinical educator and sessional lecturer at The University of Melbourne many current students will find Claire a familiar face.

Claire will speak about working within the public sector and what public sector employers will be looking for in potential recruits.


Employer from the Private Sector -
Tan Nguyen

Tan began his career as an oral health therapist in the Victorian public sector after graduating from The University of Melbourne. He currently teaches at the Melbourne Dental School, was appointed an Honorary Fellow with the Oral Health Research Stream, Deakin University, and works clinically in both the private and public dental sectors. He has secured several research grants and published work during his career in the field of public dental health. Tan is the President of the Australian Dental and Oral Health Therapists' Association, and has been an active member of ADOHTA VIC executive committee for 8 years. His interests include health economics, political advocacy, clinical education, and evidence-based practice.

Tan will speak about his career progression since graduating and provide the perspective of a private practice owner and what he looks for when recruiting new graduates.

It will be a fantastic night!
