Adelaide Hikers - Grampians Hiking Weekend
Sat., 22/04/2017, 7:00 am – Tue., 25/04/2017, 10:00 am ACST
DAY ONE - HOLLOW MOUNTAIN - STAPYLTON TRAVERSE
The narrow rock ridge linking Hollow Mountain and Mt Stapylton is undoubtedly the most spectacular daywalk in Victoria, with its grandstand views of the Northern Grampians & the surrounding Wimmera Plains. However, this demanding undertaking is not for the faint hearted as a substantial part of the walk involves exposed scrambling and some tricky route finding. If you are experienced, nimble and have a head for heights then this exciting walk will be an unforgettable experience.
DAY TWO - THE FORTRESS - 12km
For many years the Fortress was regarded as a mythical destination, lost as it is deep in a wild mountain range in one of the most remote corners of the Grampians. Its massive grey buttress and sweeping cliffs rise high above the treetops to form a singular tower that dominates all other surrounding peaks.
DAY THREE - MT DIFFICULT - BEEHIVE FALLS - BRIGGS BLUFF - 24km
This walk has just been re-opened to the public, after being closed for 3 years for repairs. A classic traverse of one of the most rugged landscapes in Victoria. A challenging and remote experience for well prepared bushwalkers, taking in the ascent of Mt Difficult, panoramic views from Briggs Bluff and a lot of great walking through wild sandstone country.
DAY FOUR - will be one of the following:
The Hole in the Wall/Natural Arch
EXPECTED STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOUR ON HIKES
These are group hikes & hikers are expected to stay with the group at all times. No racing off ahead. We hike at a pace that everyone in the group can manage and we stop and wait so that no one is left behind.
"HIKE SAFE - HIKER RESPONSIBILITY CODE:
STAY TOGETHER. Start as a group, hike as a group, end as a group. If the group splits up & a hiker becomes lost or injured, they are at a much greater risk than when with others. When people stick together they are best prepared to handle potentially dangerous situations because they can help each other and work as a group."
To ensure that we stay together, I will be asking people to take turns in being the backmarker.
Cost $60 per person for the weekend
We are staying at a camp ground with bunk houses. There are two single beds in each room.
Bring your own pillow & sleeping bag, food & cooking equipment. There is a kitchen, 5 fridges, outdoor bbqs, a hall with a TV, a games room with a pool table & table tennis table & hot showers.
