Presentation Overview:

Over the past 10 years, there have been unprecedented advances in neuroscience related to the development of social behaviour and emotional regulation. These advances include information about social awareness, social attention, self awareness, self management and self-control. This new research not only documents that these skills are brain-based, but emerging educational research indicates that these skills can be taught. The information in this presentation should be a part of every team discussion for all individuals who exhibit behaviour of concern.

This presentation includes an overview of Social Cognition, Executive Function and Emotional Regulation as they relate to Social Anxiety and a Loss of Emotional Control-

- What is Social Cognition? What does it have to do with behaviour?
- How to use The Incredible 5-Point Scale to teach social and emotional concepts and behaviours?
- Cognitive control and Executive Functioning and how they relate to emotional regulation and Interoception.
- Relationship building skills and Relaxation: why they matter and how to teach them.

- Special Guest Speaker: an individual with a ‘Lived Experience’ will provide a unique insight into the autism spectrum.
