Event description

Description

LGBTIQ communities have a unique experience of family violence. Violence can take a range of forms not commonly seen within mainstream services, and many members of these communities experience challenges in safely accessing much needed support.

This forum, targeted at individual practitioners and service providers, will include presentations, panel discussions and a short performance by My Other Closet, The Cabaret. Through presentations and panel discussion, we will explore the complexities and questions surrounding best-practice approaches to perpetrator interventions within LGBTIQ communities.

Key agencies working with perpetrators, victim/survivors and the broader community will present and discuss some of the important tensions and challenges in their work to prevent LGBTIQ family violence.

Topics for discussion include:

  • What is currently being done?

  • What new developments are on the way?

  • Why are LGBTIQ specific family violence services important?

  • What unique forms of violence do we see in the LGBTIQ context and how can we challenge them?

  • What can we do to support both perpetrators and victim/survivors to access appropriate services?

After presentations and the panel discussion there will be opportunities for questions.

Tea/coffee and lunch will be provided on the day. When registering please don't forget to list any dietary requirements.

We hope to see you there!
