Event description

Description

The NSW Homelessness Industry Partnership (IP) is hosting a two-day forum at Rydges Sydney Central to assist SHS staff to respond better to increasing numbers of Aboriginal people affected by homelessness.

The Aboriginal Caucus will be held on Tuesday 15 August, 9:00am – 12:00pm, targeting Aboriginal staff working to support Aboriginal users of homelessness services. The caucus will be a platform for Aboriginal voices to identify priority issues for discussion at the remainder of the forum.

The Addressing Aboriginal Homelessness Forum will be held from Tuesday 15 August 12:00 – 5:00 pm and Wednesday 16 August, 9am – 4pm, targeting Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal SHS staff working with Aboriginal service users, communities and organisations.

Developed in consultation with Aboriginal SHS staff, this Forum aims to:

  • promote coordination of SHS and mainstream service responses to prevent Aboriginal people entering homelessness
  • identify opportunities to better support Aboriginal workers and workers with Aboriginal clients
  • showcase examples of culturally appropriate practice.
