Help Make Our City Greener as part of RMIT's Entrepreneurship Week!

RMIT Activator and Jac Nasser invite you to help create a brighter, greener future for the City of Melbourne, with your chance to win seed funding, as well as an exclusive spot in Activator's Bootcamp and Sandbox programs.

Join us for a full day Social Impact Hackathon co-designed with RMIT Alumni and Careers and Employability. Work in multi-disciplinary teams with the support of leading industry experts and mentors to create a concept that will help redefine our city and make it greener.

The day will begin with 4 master classes from industry partners (see bios below). These partners will share what problems they believe are the most significant barriers to make our city greener, as well as some current leading solutions to how this is being done. Participants will then create, innovate and pitch to help change the future of Melbourne.

Winners will be selected and announced on the day.

The winning team will be awarded seed funding and entry into Activator's money can't buy experiences, Bootcamp and Sandbox. Runners-up will also receive seed funding and entry into Activator Bootcamp and Sandbox.

Industry Partner Bios

Peter Allan
CEO, Sustainable Resource Use

Peter has played a central role in the waste management and recycling field for the past 20 years, significantly contributing to the strategic direction of waste diversion activity in Australia. He has held management responsibility for programs dealing with domestic waste and recycling, commercial and industrial waste issues, litter and public place recycling, organics diversion and waste management infrastructure.

Peter has extensive knowledge of issues relating to the major material categories: paper, plastics, metals, organics and glass. Peter has played a key role in the product stewardship of products as diverse as packaging, clothing, cars, computers, televisions, and tyres.

His key areas of experience include: strategy and policy development; kerbside recycling systems; recycling markets; waste management plans; waste and recycling data; commercial and industrial waste reduction strategies; and communication and education programs.

Dr. Adam Bumpus
BSc (Hons) MA DPhil (Oxon)
Senior Lecturer in Environment and Innovation, School of Geography, University of Melbourne

Adam is a clean energy innovation expert, media presenter, and entrepreneur. Adam is the CEO of RedGrid – a blockchain company implementing the Tility Protocol which will foster the next generation of the human elemental experience, and a Senior Research Fellow at Melbourne University. Over the last 15 years Adam has been a mentor to startups, advisor to corporate leaders in innovation, consulted for the UN and World Bank on climate innovation, and has been involved in three climate and energy startup enterprises. He has sat on the board of Climate-KIC Australia, he is an Executive Member of the Melbourne Energy Institute, and Australian Research Council Fellow on clean energy entrepreneurship. He is a regular on Channel 10’s The Project and has co-hosted Catalyst on the ABC with Professor Tim Flannery. He is also a voiceover artist, helping promote clean energy technologies, and on occasion, impersonating Zayn Mallik on the Hamish and Andy show.
