About this event
Get skilled up, fired up and ready to go!
Join us on the weekend of 29-30 May for training and community building at Activate 2021.
At Activate, you’ll connect with other people from the Albury Wodonga community who care about protecting our living world, hear ACF’s strategy to win, and learn the skills you need to make a difference now.
It's an important moment. We have a once in a decade opportunity to get federal nature laws that reverse the extinction crisis in Australia. Global pressure is mounting on our government to commit to move away from damaging fossil fuels. Businesses are seeing the opportunity for Australia to become a clean energy super power.
We know that the only way to beat the organised money of the big polluters is with organised people. And we know that the power of the people is greater than the people in power.
Join us to stand up and speak out for our rivers, trees, and wildlife.

Why are we doing this?
Right now, a pollution and extinction crisis threatens the web of life. We need to counter the big polluters’ stranglehold on democracy and shift away from polluting fuels like coal. So much is already lost. Our children will not see the animals now extinct, the ancient forests now clear-felled or the seasons as they used to be.
But people made this crisis and we can solve it.
Change happens when ordinary people get involved and engaged and come together to make it happen. People power gave women the right to vote and stopped slavery. People saved the Franklin River from becoming a dam. People protected our Great Barrier Reef – some 50 years ago – from oil and mining.
For generations, people have come together to make life better for those who follow. Now it’s our turn!
To change the story and the system, we need to build connected and active community power. Networks of people with the desire to make a difference, united with many voices – that’s what it takes to change the world.
Is this for you?
Sick of arguing with strangers on the internet?
Want shake things up – but not sure how?
Dismayed at what’s broken in the word, but not sure what you can do to mend it?
Keen to learn skills and connect with people from your local community?
Come to Activate and you’ll walk out energised, skilled up and connected with others, ready to be part of powerful national campaigns and to run local campaigns of your own.
What will happen at Activate Training Summit:
- You’ll hear about our strategy to #RenewAustralia and ensure that we recover from the global pandemic with an economy that works for people and planet.
- You’ll learn about our theory of change to build people power, change the story and fix the system – and how local groups fit into it and can help win big national campaigns
- We’ll train you in:
- How to run a local group with clear and effective roles to support each other, avoid burnout, create good strategy, and have fun!
- How to sustain group involvement in between campaign peaks
- Effective communication about campaigns
- We’ll share:
- Resources and connections to help you move forward
- Lunch, snacks, and lots of stories!
Together, we’re building powerful, organised communities to create long-term change. Local ACF Community groups that are part of our national campaign strategy are an integral driver of our plan to fix the system. Together, we’re taking on the big, structural challenges – the laws, policies, institutions, decision and practices – to create a system that does right by people and nature.
Not convinced? Over the past couple of years we held a similar training which has launched numerous groups across Australia. Three months after the training, we asked participants what had changed for them –here’s what they said:
- "I don’t feel powerless anymore – not alone."
- "Having the courage to step into places I never thought I’d step into."
- "Realising that people power works!"
- "Moving from feeling overwhelmed and fearful to motivated and hopeful!"
- "Meeting like-minded people, seeing the resolve and determination they have and knowing that we have strength in numbers."
- "A massive boost to my confidence that I can do this. The easy to understand skills that I now have. The network that I have built out of the really interesting, diverse and skilled people, both ACF staff and the other attendees."
