Description

RESILIENCE & WELLBEING
Cultivating resilience in the face of chaos
with Dr Alison Robb

Oh, arts life…full of uncertainty, passion, instability, opportunity, drought, emotional challenge, extreme highs and devastating lows, and a lot of tedium in between. The first few years are especially challenging if you’re moving from a training institution to the self-directed, project-based chaos of the industry. So how can you build up your resilience and arm yourself with self-care to manage it all?

Dr Alison Robb, a psychologist, former theatre director and practising artist will talk about the impact of chronic uncertainty on wellbeing, define and discuss resilience, and provide tips for cultivating personal resilience. The session will end with a brief self-care exercise – something you can use anywhere, anytime to come back to a sense of security in the face of a chaotic world. There will be plenty of time for questions.

About Alison
Dr Alison Robb originally trained as a theatre director at the Flinders University Drama Centre and worked in the industry for a decade for companies such as State Theatre Company South Australia and Vitalstatistix, as well as in the USA and UK. She worked in multiple roles such as director, assistant director, stage manager, administrator and technician and was involved in arts support groups such as Arts Anonymous and the Sophia Women Artists’ Network. Alison is now a psychologist working in private practice as a therapist and consulting to arts organisations, including developing and delivering addresses, workshops and wellbeing resources. She is a practising artist with a current passion for portrait painting. Her most recent theatre work was with Restless Dance Theatre for the 2017 Adelaide Festival.
