Event description
The Australian Children's Safety Alliance is hosting a Community of Practice for working with perpetrators in the Adelaide Metro Region.

About this Event

The Australian Children's Safety Alliance is auspiced by Child and Family Focus SA, the South Australian peak body for Child Protection and Family Support. It is comprised of a wide range of agencies in South Australia, both government and non-government that want to advance, promote and implement family and domestic violence informed approaches to addressing the safety of women, protection of children and interventions with perpetrators of domestic violence and abuse.

The Australian Children's Safety Alliance (ACSA) is very excited to organise and support this community of practice for working with perpetrators and hope that it will be an asset to the sector, both practitioners and researchers in the years to come. Practice of this nature is unsafe if the experience of the victims of domestic and family violence (women and children predominately) are not well understood. Therefore WSSSA as a founding member of ACSA, will be actively engaged in the delivery of the Communities of Practice.

Who is it for?

For anyone who is working with perpetrators of family, domestic and sexual violence and abuse, either directly - as part of a change behaviour group, one on one counselling – or, as part of supporting a family in the community in any capacity, including working with parents and children who remain in contact or are influenced by their partners use of intimate partner violence.

Guiding Principles:

  • Culturally responsive services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse background are essential
  • Inclusive of all communities and experiences including LGBTQ++
  • The experience of women and children and the impact of domestic violence should inform practice and will seek to ensure that women and children have a voice
  • The critical role of parenting and parent education in a domestic violence context
  • Making visible and accountable the behaviour of perpetrators of domestic violence and abuse
  • To explore new ideas and research and provide a place for practice to inform research
  • To share the learnings of the community of practice with the sector

Purpose:

  • To meet bi-monthly
  • To provide a community of practice Bulletin (i.e. the minutes/discussion from sessions) released to membership and the sector after each session.
  • Create resource materials derived from the sessions to expand knowledge and practice in the sector.
