Description

The Australia-China Relations Institute (ACRI) has invited three visiting scholars to share their views on recent developments in China’s economy. The topics covered will include the quality of China’s product exports and its determinants, China’s soon to be released nation-wide carbon emissions trading scheme and recent overseas direct investment regulations in China and their implications for Chinese FDI in Australia.

Dr. Yan Liu, Associate Professor and Vice Dean of Department of International Economics and Trade of School of International Business, Dalian Minzu University (BLNU), Dr. Ke Wang, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Management Engineering of School of Management and Economics, Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) and Diane Hu, Assistant Professor, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) will each make a short presentation followed by a roundtable discussion.

Dr. Yan Liu

Dr. Yan Liu is currently an Associate Professor and Vice Dean of Department of International Economics and Trade of School of International Business, Dalian Minzu University (BLNU). He was a visiting scholar of Texas A&M University. His current research interests include export product quality and its determinants, and the trade relationship between members in ASEAN+6. He is the PI of research project supported by China’s Social Science Fund. He has published a number of peer-reviewed articles on China’s export product quality, the effect of intellectual property right protection on high quality exports, and the selection of China FTA partner countries.

Dr. Ke Wang

Dr. Ke Wang is currently an Associate Professor and Head of Department of Management Engineering of School of Management and Economics, Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). He is also the Director of Research Division for Energy Modelling and System Development of Center for Energy and Environmental policy research (CEEP) of BIT. He was a visiting research scholar of University of Illinois and University of Michigan. His research interests include efficiency and productivity measurement, benchmarking, energy economics and climate policy modelling. He is the PI of research projects including grants of NSFC, China CDM Fund, World Bank China Energy Efficiency Financing Project. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles in the field of energy economics and climate economics, management science and operations research.

Dan (Diane) Hu

Ms. HU Dan teaches “Australian economy and its relations with China”, Legal Translation, Interpretation and other BA and MA courses at the School of English and International Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). She has been undertaking research on China-Australia relations, especially on the economic front. Her PhD thesis, which is to be completed, examines China's investment in Australia during the Labor government and the latter's FDI policy and approach towards China. More recently she has focused on FDI and wine exports.
