Emiko Davies is a widely admired blogger, author, cook, illustrator, and photographer, who once lived in Melbourne working with many of our top restaurants, and now lives in Tuscany; spending her days, when not cooking or raising her young family, researching, photographing, illustrating and writing several regular columns on Italian cuisine and Italian cookbooks.
Last year, Emiko confirmed her reputation as one of the eminient authorities on traditional Tuscan cuisine with her first book Florentine: the true cuisine of Florence. This year, Emiko's new book Acquacotta: recipes & stories from Tuscany's secret silver coast confirms this even further.
Once part of the heartland of Etruscan civilisation in pre-Roman Italy, Southern Tuscany and the Maremma in particular, is one of the hidden secrets of Italy. Although in antiquity an extremely wealthy agricultural province, with the fall of the Roman empire the Maremma became a deserted swamp infamous for its silted ports, abandoned villages, pirates and finally in the Renanissance, maleria. Whereas the rest of Tuscany and Florence in particular became the epicentre for art, literature, travel, politics and money, the Maremma became a byword for poverty and disease. In the mid-nineteenth century admirable efforts were made to curb maleria but it was not until after WWII when Italy embarked on a wide range of social and agricultural reforms that the Maremma came of age, again.
Although not classically beautiful like Chianti or the Florentine Hills and valley, Southern Tuscany centered on Grosseto and Port Ercole, has a quintessential and compelling melancholy that has remained until recently one of Italy's best hidden secrets.
In Acquacotta, Emiko has beautifully captured the essence of the Maremma, its secret coastline and its beauty through its food and stories.
On Tuesday 28th February we will be chatting with Emiko about her life in Tuscany, Italian regional food and her her love of one of Italy's special secrets - the Maremma - whilst sampling tastes from her new book Acquacotta and toasting its success with a glass or two.

Can I buy Acquacotta by Emiko Davies?
Yes, although officially released on 1 March, copies will be available for signing and purchase - $49.95. Signed copies of Florentine will also be available for purchase
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
As this is a licenced venue and alcohol may be served, attendees must be 18+ or accompanied by a parent/guardian
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
We recommend public transport.
The 19, 20, 57 (Elizabeth St)and 55 (William & Peel St) trams go past the Queen Victoria Market and run frequently. We are in the Free Tram Zone and are a short 50m walk from the Elizabeth St Queen Victoria Market stop. Melbourne Central and Flagstaff railway stations are two blocks away.
If driving, there is plenty of metered parking on Therry St right outside the store and on Queen St.
Is my registration/ticket transferable?
Yes - to another person - just have them present your ticket on the evening.
What is the refund policy?
Tickets are not refundable.
