Sporting clubs are a place of connection and support; be confident in knowing what to say to help a member who might be struggling.
About this event
Do other people within your club turn to you for advice and guidance?
Do you want to help people feel better, but sometimes don’t know what to say?
Do you get worried you might say the ‘wrong’ thing, or make things worse?
Do you want to feel more confident when supporting others?
The Accidental Counsellor workshop will provide volunteers of local sporting clubs with the techniques and strategies to successfully support those who are distressed, upset or generally requiring emotional support, without being a trained counsellor. The online workshop is practical, interactive and will benefit anyone required to provide regular informal support. By the end of the workshop, you will understand:
- The key attributes of an Accidental Counsellor
- Empathy, understanding and compassionate listening skills
- Body language
- Empowering the distressed person
- Moving someone from a high emotional state to a calmer state
- Negative impact of giving advice outside the scope of your expertise
- Referring someone on to specialist services
This workshop is being offered to sporting club committee members and volunteers based in the Loddon Campaspe region.
