Event Details

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy for BPD (22nd & 29th July 2020 - 2 Day Training for Clinicians)

This 2 day workshop, delivered across 2 separate weeks, aims to provide clinicians with an opportunity to experience Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as applied for clients with BPD. Spectrum is currently researching the effectiveness of ACT as a brief intervention program (delivered individually in four sessions) as well as the updated version of Wise Choices (Spectrum’s group program of 10 sessions) for our clientele. A foundational understanding of ACT principles would be helpful for the participant to benefit from this experiential workshop.

Facilitators: Tania Wittleton & Clive Collins

Clive Collins is a mental health nurse who trained in the UK and migrated to Australia in 1995. He has a articular interest in Personality disorders and Psychotherapy. He has worked for Spectrum for the past 19 years. Clive onsiders Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to be a great way to work with this client group. He has been a facilitator of the “Wise Choices” group program as well as seeing clients individually. He is currently involved in three pilot ACT programs at Spectrum as part of the Research and Development Team.

Tania Wittleton is an Occupational Therapist who, for twenty years, has worked with clients experiencing mental health issues across the lifespan and in numerous public health settings throughout Australia: from inpatient psychiatry units, to Prevention and Recovery Care Services, community case management and crisis work, alongside conducting project work with FaPMI and indigenous mental health. Tania currently works at Spectrum in their Dialectical Behaviour Clinic, for those with a Borderline Personality Disorder diagnosis and has co-developed the service’s Acceptance and Commitment Therapy program pilot. Sensory modulation as a therapeutic intervention is a key area of her practice expertise and Tania’s work ethos is foregrounded in empowering clients to experience their functional best and maximum quality of life.
