Event description

Description

Use Design as a foundation for innovation

Course Objectives:

  • Develop a high-level understanding of the design thinking innovation and experimentation approach.

  • Understand how design integrates with strategy, architecture, agile and lean to help incubate and scale.

  • Understand how to leverage design to accelerate corporate innovation.

Why Design Thinking?

According to the World Economic Forum, the top three skills employers’ need by 2020 will be:

1. Complex problem solving
2. Critical thinking
3. Creativity.

In addition, this research identified that 35% of the skills considered important by employers will have changed within a five-year period[1]. These changes are expected to take place due to shifts in technology, business processes and decision making which have already started to occur in our workplaces today.

Design Thinking places the top three skills listed above at its heart, along with its focus on understanding people and delivering value. It is an approach that has evolved over time to be one of the fastest and most effective ways to develop innovative solutions to complex problems, and is already embraced by many of the world’s leading organisations.[2]

How the course works

This introductory, one-day accelerator will give you a high-level overview and basic knowledge of some of the key Design Thinking tools and techniques that you can use in your workplace and business. It will also give you an understanding of how design complements strategy, architecture and agile approaches, as well as how to overcome some of the challenges within the corporate innovation space.

Learn how we have helped some organisations embed Design Thinking into their innovation management capability. These range from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, through to Telstra, Rio Tinto, Australia Post, ANZ, and the World Bank, amongst others.

Topics covered in the course
Mindset: Understanding and creating a successful Design Thinking mindset.
Prepare: Understanding and preparing for the Design Thinking journey.
Discover: Understanding triangular research and how to use abductive logic.
