Event description

Description

ACBC Victoria is pleased to invite you to our event - China’s Belt and Road Initiative - Implications for Australian Agriculture

Much has been said and written about China’s ambitious Belt & Road Initiative designed to connect China with Asia, Europe, Africa and Oceania by land and sea.

This will create massive new infrastructure development projects and will open up new trade opportunities for those countries involved. Others are concerned about the potential for China to increase its economic domination of countries along these new routes.

If President Xi Jinping’s vision is realised it will undoubtedly change future global trade flows. There are significant opportunities for infrastructure development and new markets, but it will also challenge existing trade arrangements. Opening up new markets and improving transport efficiencies will have implications for Australia, including particularly in our trade in agribusiness and food products with China.

This forum will assess the positive and negative impacts of the BRI including possible changes in global trade flows and relationships which might affect Australia’s future trade with China.

At the event you’ll hear from speakers including:

  • Matthew Schofield, Chair of ShineWing Agribusiness Industry Group; Chair of ACBC Victoria Energy and Resources Working Group
  • Danny Burrows, Director, TradeWorthy
  • Philippa Jones, Managing Director, China Policy
  • Prof Christine Wong, Director, Centre for Contemporary Chinese Studies, University of Melbourne
  • Barry White, Vice President, ACBC Victoria
  • Further speakers TBC
