ABOUT THIS SESSION:
This session will help you identify and practise the most troublesome elements of grammar and style. The focus will not be on teaching you about grammar but on exploring how language works to do the things you have to do in a thesis. This session will allay your fears and provide you with an opportunity to identify and practise the most troublesome elements of grammar and style. The focus will not be
- academic writing conventions
- tense, voice and mood
- claims and counterclaims
- signposting and connecting ideas
- paragraph cohesion
You will also be encouraged to bring a small sample of your own writing and raise other language issues.
WHY SHOULD I ATTEND?
After this session, you will be more confident about your language use. You will be able to identify some common grammatical errors and use those language elements that create an academic style. Just as importantly, you will be left with a resource bank that you can use to improve your language use.
