Welcome to ACA's Regional Workshop Series, Sunshine Coast!

"Building resilience after trauma; methods in professional practice"

Hosted by the Australian Counselling Association and the University of Sunshine Coast, join allied and mental health professionals in the Sunshine Coast region in the exploration of the above theme. Explore methods of resilience building, trauma practice, professional and ethical application. Held in Lecture Theatre 6, Building K, University of Sunshine Coast Sippy Downs between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm; the ACA Regional Workshops Series, Sunshine Coast will be a full event of professional development, networking and collegial engagement.

This event is ideal for Counsellors, Social Workers, Psychologists, Case Workers, Community and Welfare Workers, students, academics and program managers. Exploring the concepts of resilience building, trauma practice and professional practice; attendees will also have the opportunity to network with like-minded professionals in a collegial atmosphere. Catering throughout the day will be provided (morning and afternoon tea, and lunch).

Professional Development points will be available for Counsellors (ACA) and are being sought for Social Workers(AASW). Other professionals may be eligible for professional development points. A certificate of attendance will be issued to attendees.

9:30 am-9:45 am: Event opening & Welcome to Country
9:45 am-10: 30 am: Ethical Practice with Dr Philip Armstrong
10:30 am - 11:00 am: Morning Tea
11:00 am - 12:30 pm: Trauma Practice with Lyn Baird - Imagery Rescripting when working with adults who have suffered childhood trauma
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm: Lunch
1:30 pm - 2:30 pm: Counsellors as Resilience Guides. Ten ways that counselling support can develop resilience by Dr Mark Pearson
2:30 pm - 3:00 pm: Afternoon tea
3:00 pm - 3:30 pm: Supervision in Social Work and Counselling by Lorraine Hayes
3:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Speaker Panel - all speakers answer questions from the audience
4:00pm - 4:30 pm: Event close

Speakers:

Lyn Baird
Marriage Therapist, Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor - Lyn has a Masters in Counselling, Graduate Diploma in Business, is a Registered Counselling Supervisor and teaches in this field.

Dr Philip Armstrong holds a PhD in Counselling Supervision

Dr Mark Pearson is a full-time counselling educator. He has been conducting training courses in counselling with young clients – using Expressive Therapies and Sandplay Therapy – internationally since 1989
Mark holds PhD (Counselling); M.Ed. (Behaviour Modification); Cert. Transpersonal Psychotherapy; Dip. ERC.; Dip. T. (Primary).

Lorraine Hayes is the Field Education Coordinator in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Sunshine Coast. Lorraine's qualifications include: BSW, AMHSW, BA Anthro & Sociology, DipComWelfWk
