Launch for all Darebin Early Years and Primary School Educators

'DEADLY DAN AT THE LEAGUE ' - Aboriginal Super Hero

Children's Book, Film and Ideas for Lesson plans.

Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) Healthy Lifestyle Team and Darebin City Council are proudly working together to present a professional development opportunity for all early years and primary school educators with Deadly Dan, Aboriginal super hero and star of children’s illustrated book, ‘Deadly Dan At The League’.

DATE: Wednesday May 30 2018

TIME: 4.00PM - 5.30pm

VENUE: Aborigines Advancement League (upstairs), 2 Watt Street , Thornbury

Parking available onsite (close to Thornbury Train Station)

BOOKINGS: This event will be well attended, so book your place early to avoid disappointment. Group bookings accepted. For catering purposes please indicate the number of tickets you require when booking.


This event includes:

  • Light refreshments provided (at arrival)

  • Official start 4.15pm

  • Welcome to Country by Wurundjeri Elder.

  • Offer of two copies of the children’s book Deadly Dan at the League, a copy of the film and teacher curriculum resources. Themes covered in this resource include Aboriginal culture, significant Darebin places and locations, physical education and promoting healthy lifestyles. The focus for this event will be the Aborigines Advancement League Mural and Health Harms of Smoking.

  • Showing of Deadly Dan Film (10 minutes)

  • Presence and interaction with Deadly Dan – Aboriginal Superhero

  • Brief presentation by guest speaker that makes explicit the value of Deadly Dan at the League towards contributing to an education system that values and respects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and promotes local, place-based initiatives ( Marrung - Aboriginal Education Plan 2016 – 2026)

  • Interactive activity that educators can use with their students
