About this event
CULTURAL SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE
This means everyone, regardless of culture, need to be treated with respect, inclusion and transparent management and health and safety policies within the workplace.
Cultural safety is more than just being aware of other cultures and respecting all people. It is about creating a workplace where everyone can examine our attitudes and be open minded and flexible in our attitudes towards people from cultures other than our own.
A culturally safe workplace has a defined set of values and principles, and demonstrates behaviours, attitudes, policies and structures that enable all workers to work effectively cross-culturally.
ABORIGINAL CULTURAL SAFETY
This is especially important if your business employs Aboriginal people, provides services to Aboriginal people, or engages with Aboriginal communities. Protocols are the standards of behaviour that people use to show respect to each other. Every culture has different ways of communicating.
It helps to understand how people might express, see or value things differently. This builds respect regardless of background or culture. Aboriginal people can easily isolated in non- Aboriginal organisations.
In Aboriginal-run organisations, Aboriginal people may find themselves working with people from different Country and with different protocols.
