Please note: all participants must attend both days

Day 1 - Walking through Brisbane

ABORIGINAL CULTURAL LANDSCAPE WALKING TOUR:

2:30pm meet with Paul Memmott & Alex Bond at the Kuril Dhagun’s Talking Circle (outdoor sitting space) State Library of Queensland Cultural Precinct

* look for the yarning circle opposite the upside down black elephant outside the GOMA building)

IT IS ADVISABLE FOR EACH PARTICIPANT TO BRING ALONG THE FOLLOWING:

❖ comfortable walking shoes

❖ hat/sunscreen

❖ umbrella (if raining)

❖ drinking water

❖ notepad and pen

❖ mobile camera/camera

❖ any medical requirements

NOTE: Headsets on this tour are provided by the tour group but must be returned and collected at the end of the tour.

Day 2 - Native Title Talk

9:30am meet at 61 Mary St Room MG.06 for Native Title Talks with Paul Memmott and Alex Bond.

Learn all about :

Lessons from Aboriginal Geographers’: Re-examination of how regional relations worked – integration of religious, geographic, economic and social aspects. Unpacking ‘skin’ relations.

• Discuss levels of socio-geographic identity in traditional social organisation.

• Recent political history of Native Title. Social impacts and conflicts of traditional owners claims.

• Discuss alternate protocols, approaches and issues about welcome to country and acknowledging T.O.s.

• Overview of the fragmented Goorie society in SEQ in the Mabo era. (With historical time-line.)

• Understanding contemporary social problems in Queensland and how they impact on road travel, circular mobility patterns (policy implications).

• The historical relation of the Myuma Group of Camooweal and Main Roads; Aboriginal enterprise involvement in road construction and maintenance.
