Description

FACS has engaged AbSec to undertake a number of statewide consultations with Aboriginal and non Aboriginal stakeholders within the child and family sector to develop a draft Aboriginal Case Management Policy and Guidelines in readiness of the implementation of the Permanency Support Program in October 2017. This is a unique opportunity to design a culturally responsive case management policy that embeds Aboriginal values and perspectives. This builds on the original intent of the Plan on a Page for Aboriginal children and young people which includes a commitment for policy that affects Aboriginal children, young people and families to be driven by Aboriginal people.

We want to hear your voice and experience, consultations will be held across 10 statewide locations over June and July ensuring the involvement of Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal service providers, FACS and other critical stakeholders across the care continuum of early intervention, child protection, out of home care and after care. These consultations will be held to test concepts, principles and directions for the Aboriginal Case Management Policy and Guidelines and explore what implementation may look like on a practical level.

AbSec is the peak Aboriginal child and family organisation in NSW caring and advocating for Aboriginal children and families, as well as the Aboriginal organisations that support them. We provide support for communities and policy advice to government on issues affecting Aboriginal children, young people, families, communities and organisations.

Our vision is that Aboriginal children and young people are looked after in safe, thriving Aboriginal families and communities. Our kids should be raised strong in spirit and identity, with every opportunity for lifelong wellbeing and connection to culture through Aboriginal community controlled organisations.
