Event description

Description

The theme of the 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting will be ‘Health Equity: Challenges & Solutions’, reflecting the need to align the diverse range of disciplines involved in health across Australia to better strategically address the needs of our community. Better integration of research, education and clinical care, and targeting our efforts where the need is greatest will improve the health of our nation.

This year, we will meet across 3 days and join with the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA) for part of the events. Dr Richard Horton, Editor-in-Chief of the Lancet, joins us as our international guest.

The Academy’s Mentorship Workshop will be held on Wednesday, October 18, and the main AAHMS meeting will commence on Thursday, October 19 at SAHMRI. Later that evening we will join with our sister Academy, ASSA, to celebrate a spectacular dinner at Adelaide Oval, before a joint symposium on Friday, October 20, to explore our theme – ‘Health Equity: Challenges & Solutions’.

The collaborative AAHMS/ASSA 2017 meeting will bring Australia’s leaders in health and medical research, social and political science together to strategically address the needs of our community. By working with our sister Academy we are uniquely placed to drive greater integration between clinical and research settings and policy engagement, to positively impact health outcomes.
