Description

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) enables people to communicate when they are unable to meet their communication needs through speech alone. Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Teachers and other educators and support staff are all involved in supporting people to find the right AAC solution to meet their needs. With the AAC field rapidly changing it can be difficult to find and assess for the most appropriate solution.

This workshop unpacks the various types of AAC solutions and explores the journey towards obtaining AAC. Key assessment frameworks and key considerations that inform AAC prescription will be addressed. Attendees will also develop an increased awareness of alternate access.

Objectives:

  • Understand the role and purpose of AAC
  • Be aware of the categories of AAC
  • Be aware of different low tech and high tech AAC systems
  • Be able to identify the key assessment frameworks for AAC consideration
  • Be aware of alternative access options, and some understanding of the clinical considerations for these access options
  • Be aware of the journey towards obtaining and AAC system
  • Know where to find support in the future

Audience:

This is targeted at therapists with beginners knowledge around AAC prescription and implementation to provide a firm theoretical underpinning to clinical practice.

Cancellations and Refunds

Cancellations up to 7 days prior to the session will receive a full refund. Cancellations less than seven days prior to the workshop will receive a refund minus a 15% administration charge. Fees from registrants who cancel less than 24 hours prior to the event are not refundable, however, registrants may arrange for another person to attend in their place. Registrations will be confirmed once payment has been received. LifeTec Australia reserves the right to cancel the workshop if there are insufficient registrations. In this event, payment will be fully refunded.

LifeTec requires a minimum of 5 people for this workshop to run, if in the event we need to cancel the workshop due to low registrations, you will receive a full refund.
