Are you interested in having a hands-on experience of learning to communicate differently? Drop by and explore the communication world of people in our community.
Chris is a speech-language Pathologist for Optimum Health Solutions in Nowra. He works with clients who use AAC. Chris is a long term Shoalhaven resident with a passion for language, communication, education, live music and theatre.
Examples of AAC could be:
- Sign language
- Electronic speech generating devices
- Tablet and Phone apps
- Paper-based resources
People who use AAC include those with:
- Autism
- Cancer affecting speech production
- Cerebral Palsy
- Developmental Speech and Language disorders
- Intellectual Disability
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Voice disorders (Dysphonia)
- Parkinson’s disease
- Stroke
1 in 500 people in Australia rely on AAC as their only mode of communication.
