A deep dive into nature’s year, or the seasons of the rainforest.

About this event

A Rainforest Calendar: Come on a deep dive into nature’s year, or the seasons of the rainforest. Meet the beautiful and fascinating butterflies and birds which express the changing of the seasons in our local rainforests and ponder the relevance of the seasonal calendar based on astronomical observations made by humans in Europe.

This tour will be timed with the courtship of Satin Bowerbirds and nesting of the migratory Black-faced Monarch and sedentary Brown Gerygones, Yellow-throated Scrubwrens and Green Catbirds along with the fruiting of the forest and emergence of the beautiful male Wonder Brown butterflies.

The tour will be led by ornithologist, guide and educator Ricki Coughlan from Aussie Wild Nature Discovery.

Best Practice

When on tour it is our goal to be totally passive and ensure that our presence is free from causing distress or disturbance to the wildlife. Let’s remember that we are merely there to observe, record, learn and wonder. For this reason, please note the following:

• Whistling and vocal mimicry is fine in moderation, but no “playback” please.

• Please don’t disturb wildlife in order to elicit a response for photography or a “better view”.

• Please stick to the trails.

• Please don’t approach any bird’s nest or impede birds from feeding their young.

• Please don’t attempt to catch, touch or handle any wildlife.

• Please refrain from collecting feathers and other momentos.

• Please avoid full flash photography.

Bird watching should be called “bird listening”. Seeing the birds and experiencing them in their natural behaviour requires a great deal of focus and attention. This means that endless talking about trivia will potentially spoil your tour (or the experience for others) and certainly reduce the diversity and abundance of birds we would otherwise encounter.

Cancellation Policy

If a tour is cancelled or postponed due to bad weather or for any other unforeseen circumstances, participants will be notified as soon as possible. We will reschedule the tour within 4 months of the original tour date. Alternatively, a refund can be requested.

We look forward to sharing this birding experience with you.
