Event description

Description

Sometimes adults hesitate at the thought of young children using real tools; hitting a nail with a hammer or using a saw to cut down a piece of wood. But real tools provide children with real life experiences that promote communication, coordination, fine and gross motor development, self-regulation and self control.

This workshop will provide a range of tools and resources for educators and teachers to explore, allowing individuals to build confidence and understanding around the use of real tools with children of varying age groups.

This practical workshop explores:

- how real tools enhance individual/group learning and development

- what tools are appropriate and how do we use them safely and effectively?

- projects to promote age appropriate experiences

- supporting and promoting risk taking in play

* Participants will work on a variety of small projects suitable for children throughout this workshop, including the construction of a wooden mallet and set of natural wooden blocks to take away upon completion.
