Description

Muslims are often misrepresented in the media with a focus on controversial verses from their holy books and radicalised groups of Muslims as representing the mainstream. There is confusion about gender issues in Islam, Jihad and Sharia law. Join Souha Korbatieh as she unravels some of these mysteries and covers what Islam means to Muslims. She will discuss the basics of Islam including the pillars of Islam and articles of faith and look at sharia law and what it means to Australians/scientific contribution of Muslims.

About Souha Korbatieh
Souha Korbatieh has a Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Jurisprudence from UNSW and a Masters of Islamic Studies and plans to further pursue her studies in Islamic and Western criminal laws. She conducts weekly community classes on Islam, and speaks about Islam to Sydney-based year 12 students as part of the Studies of Religion syllabus. She volunteers at the RACS (Refugee Advice and Casework Service) after having volunteered at Legal Aid NSW for two years. Souha is a diligent Jane Austen Society of Australian member.
