Gardens for Wildlife Ballarat is a free, community-based gardening program that helps people provide wildlife-friendly spaces in their gardens.

Whether you have a big backyard, a tiny courtyard, community garden, a school veggie patch, or pot plants on your balcony, you can contribute to the survival of wildlife by providing suitable places (habitat) for birds, insects, frogs, lizards and other animals.By creating a garden that is wildlife-friendly you can:
  • Help conserve local plants and animals

  • Reduce water use and evaporation

  • Enjoy your garden more by reducing maintenance time and costs.Enjoy close encounters with native animals in your garden

  • Enjoy close encounters with native animals in your garden

Connecting to nature in our gardens is also good for our health!

Nothing brightens your day like a close encounter with wildlife - the chatter of fairy wrens, the flutter of passing butterflies and the beauty of blue banded bees. Encourage the neighbouring wildlife into your urban garden with a selection of attractive native plants from the forests, grasslands and wetlands around Ballarat and discover the many delights and benefits of including local plants in your garden.
