A Most Liveable City Walk (Open to Public)
Event Information
About this Event
If you are interested in empathy, diversity and connection, or are curious about how COVID has affected some of Melbourne’s most vulnerable people, we are hosting a (COVID-safe) walk in the Melbourne CBD, sharing stories of the city that are rarely heard. We call the walk "A Most Liveable City" and explore the question: liveable for whom? More info below.
We normally only provide these sessions to groups such as schools and corporate social responsibility teams - so this is a unique opportunity, and a great way to support a small non-profit organisation in tough times!
Please share this event, you never know who might need to encounter The Intersection.
-----------
Melbourne is known as one of the world’s most liveable cities. With coffee, arts, footy, trams, and graffiti, what’s not to love?
1 in 10 of us will experience homelessness,
1 in 5 of us drink at harmful levels,
1 in 4 are lonely,
2 in 3 of us neither know or trust our neighbours...
and that was before the coronavirus and months of lockdown.
So, for whom is Melbourne really liveable?
How have some of the city’s most vulnerable been affected? What can we do to make Melbourne a place of empathy, diversity and connection for everyone?
Our experienced presenters will take you on a walking journey through different perspectives of our beloved city. As we move through different places in the CBD, we tell stories that are rarely heard, and invite your observations and reactions. We unpack themes of stereotyping, power, connection and empathy; and discuss issues such as homelessness, addiction, colonisation and disadvantage.
Where you STAND determines what you SEE
So come and see our city through different eyes.
This walk runs for approximately 90 minutes. Normally offered to schools and corporate groups with more than 12000 participants every year, this unique experience is now available to the general public for a limited time.
18+ only unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please note that the content is not suitable for younger than 14 years old.
Space is strictly limited to 10 participants under Third Step restrictions as advised by the DHHS. As we are in public and outdoor spaces, while we will do our best to maintain COVID-safe practices such as maintaining 1.5m distancing, you are responsible for your own safety. Mask-wearing is compulsory for all attendees.
Participation in the walk is by donation, which will support the work of The Intersection to increase empathy, diversity and connection in our city, and to make our city a better place to live for everyone. The Intersection Urban Learning is a Tax Deductible Gift Recipient for donations of $2 or more; a deductible tax invoice is available on request. If a donation presents a challenge to you, please get in touch events@ti.org.au
