A Day of Mindfulness and Qigong
Event Information
About this event
We will open with a guided meditation to set the intentions for the day using palo sancto sticks (though we may not be able to burn them in case we set off the fire alarms!). Amanda Scott will lead the guided meditation .Meditation sessions can be done walking, seated or lying down. We suggest you bring something to lie on or sit on and a blanket for your comfort.
Suse Coon will then teach the classic Qigong routine, Ba Duan Jin, translated as The Eight Pieces of Brocade or sometimes The Eight Fine Treasures, which stimulates and harmonises the meridians and the five organs of the body. The Eight-section exercises date back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279) when they were allegedly developed by Zhongli Quan and Lü Dongbin, two of the Eight Immortals. Brocade was highly prized cloth, the best, so this is thought to be the 'best' qigong exercise. It is currently being used by TCM practitioners in China to help corona virus patients.
Participants will also receive a worksheet to enable them to practise this at home, should they wish.
The day will finish with Amanda leading a Mindfulness body scan with compassion.
Refreshments will be provided and participants are invited to bring vegetarian lunch to share or to go out for lunch at one of the many local facilities.
The Templar Hall is within walking distance of the bus terminus in Tarbert and the ferry terminal. If you would like to share transport, please let us know.
There is a half day option for anyone who just wants a refresher.
