Event description

Description

Discover the major scientific achievements Australian researchers have made toward finding a cure for cancer. Cancer is an insidious disease that affects people from all walks of life. Fortunately, due to treatment improvements and new interventions brought about by basic research, the survival rate for many types of cancer has increased in the past three decades. Dr Alexander Sobinoff will outline, using everyday language, how normal cells become cancerous, and give an insight into his research primarily focused on how cancer cells maintain their immortality and how these processes might be targeted to treat a wide range of cancers.

Dr Sobinoff is a post-doctoral researcher at the Children’s Medical Research Institute, Westmead and completed his PhD at the University of Newcastle.

Presented in National Science Week 2017 in partnership with Inspiring Australia. Bookings essential. Contact Charlestown Library on 4921 0792 for further information.
