Description

A bird may love a fish but where would they build a home together?” This is a famous line from Joseph Stein, Fiddler on the Roof.

Sometimes the debate in Australia about co-existence, reconciliation and recognition feels a bit like this line from “Fiddler on the Roof”. I still hear voices in my head saying,’ How can it happen, it’s impossible, someone has to compromise and someone has to be in charge and make the rules! At times it does seem difficult to see a way forward.

In this presentation, Adelaide Law School alumnus, Andrea Mason, will reflect on this question and discuss whether, at this point in time in our nation’s history, is there a chance that we may be missing seeing a tree in the forest that could help us see the forest differently?

About the speaker, Andrea Mason

Since 1989 Andrea has worked in various roles in government and community service. In her current role as the Chief Executive Officer of NPY Women’s Council, Andrea believes her responsibility is one of advocating, facilitating and co-ordinating the services of NPY Women’s Council to assist the organisation to deliver on its vision of a strong future for Anangu and Yarnangu.

A commitment to regional development, innovation and growth is reflected in the various committees and initiatives Andrea supports including the Empowered Communities initiative, the Council’s partnership with Jawun and as the Co-Chair of the Prime Minister’s Indigenous Advisory Council.

She is a Telstra Australian Businesswoman of the Year, Centralian Citizen of the Year and Northern Territory Australian of the Year, and she has been awarded an honorary doctorate for her commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social justice by The University of Adelaide.
