Planning a new research project can be an exhilarating intellectual experience. Reviewing the current state of thinking in your field, and discussing the possibilities with your colleagues will have your mind running in overdrive. But when it comes condensing all those ideas into a coherent, convincing research proposal, many newcomers to research stumble. How can you avoid the frustrating cycle of drafting that is an all too frequent experience? In this one-day workshop, you will learn what is expected in the four sections of a typical Confirmation of Candidature document: The Research Case, Intellectual Context, Research Outcomes and Research Method.

You will also be introduced to an approach that will help you prepare your readers for your research question - the focal point of both the Research Case and Intellectual Context sections. Justifying a research question in the typical academic style neither comes naturally to most, nor is it a natural by-product of undergraduate study. Once you know how to do this properly, all other aspects of your writing will benefit.

There is a high demand for workshop places. If you are registered for a workshop and can no longer attend, please notify the GRS at grs.hdr@westernsydney.edu.au as soon as possible so we can offer your place to another person.
