Corrective Services NSW invites you to the upcoming 4th World Congress on Probation, which will be held over three days in Sydney, Australia, in September 2019.

The 4th World Congress on Probation brings together experts and practitioners from around the world to promote and develop probation and community corrections through the sharing of practical and academic knowledge.

We are proud to be hosting this event and are looking forward to showcasing how we manage offenders in the community.

We also hope you extend your journey beyond the conference to enjoy Sydney’s wonderful harbour setting, and the other magnificent sights that the city has to offer. We look forward to seeing you in Sydney next year.

Frank Porporino - Will facilitate a discussion panel to consider key questions from the Congress. Drawing on the content from the conference and using hypothetical scenarios, the panel can reflect on what we already do well, what we do poorly, and what we need to start thinking about moving into the future.

  • Tuesday 17 September 2019 - Welcome Cocktail Reception - Enjoy canapes and drinks at the beautiful Garden Court Restaurant of the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth. Rekindle friendships and meet new friends as you celebrate the start of the 4th World Congress on Probation.

  • 18 and 19 September 2019 - Two-Day Conference - Focussing on showcasing best practice in probation, the two-day conference will feature selected keynote speakers, both international and local, who are identified as leaders in their field of probation and parole. The 4th World Congress on Probation will focus on evidence-based strategies and practice in the management of offenders in the community. This will enable speakers to cover broad offender-management strategies, as well as the more unique and targeted interventions for sex offenders or terror-based offenders. To make the 4th World Congress on Probation a successful forum, it is hoped that participants from all fields, including justice, academia, policy, law, police, social welfare and victims' groups will be attending and sharing their insight into this challenging goal.

  • 18 September 2019 - Conference Dinner - Luna Park Sydney - Travel by ferry from Circular Quay across Sydney Harbour to the carnival atmosphere of Sydney's Luna Park at Milsons Point. There you will be greeted by stilt walkers and other colourful characters as you enter through the gaping mouth. Float 40m high on Luna Park's Ferris Wheel to capture unbelievable views of Sydney Harbour, then walk the red carpet to the magnificent Crystal Ballroom which overlooks Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. The dinner will include a three-course meal, hand-picked Australian wine and other beverages. You will also be treated to a variety of entertainment celebrating Australian culture.

Can I submit a paper for the conference?

The call for papers closed on 19 April 2019.

Study tours:

Study tours will be conducted on Friday, 20 September 2019. These tours are available for all non-NSW residents who have registered for the Congress. Closer to the date you can nominate preferences for your study tour. You will be provided return transport from the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth to the study tour. Study tours will focus on pathways for reintegration, such as transitional housing for women, preparing inmates for release, education and industry training in correctional centres, a look into our Community Corrections offices and partnerships with non-government organisations.

What accommodation is available?

The conference will be held at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth. This five-star luxury hotel is located in the heart of the Sydney Central Business District, close to the Sydney Opera House and the beautiful Royal Botanic Garden.

A conference rate has been negotiated with the hotel. For your stay during your time in Sydney, you can book:

The room rate includes breakfast daily in the Garden Court Restaurant and Wi-Fi.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is located in the centre of the Sydney Central Business District.

The hotel is easily accessible by taxi, bus or train. Trains can be taken from both Sydney Domestic Airport Station and Sydney International Airport Station to Wynyard Station, or change trains for Martin Place Station.

The Sofitel Sydney Wentworth Car Park has plenty of secure car spaces at affordable rates. A discounted parking rate is available for conference delegates at $AU53 per car, per day.

Delegates staying overnight can also enjoy a preferential rate of $AU55 per car, per night. The carpark is located at the Bligh Street entrance and spaces are subject to availability.
