Event description

Description

3100: Run and Become arrives in Bunbury on 25 March 2020.

This never-before-told tale of endurance and determination follows a diminutive paperboy from Finland, Ashprihanal Aalto, and a female cellist from Austria, Shamita Achenbach-Koenig, participants in the world's longest certified running race - the Self-Transcendence 3100 Miler - as they attempt to shatter boundaries of human possibility.

The most elusive, elite multi-day race in the world, the Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race, takes place in Queens, New York City each summer. This race is held around one square sidewalk block (883m) and requires almost 100 kilometres a day for 52 straight days to complete the event. The film takes us from the heart of this astonishing event staged entirely in New York City to sites around the world where cultures have held running sacred for millennia.

What would you do to transform your life? How far would you go for a metamorphosis? Would you drive, would you fly, would you run? Ancient man and woman ran not just for survival, but to connect with Nature and the Divine.

We follow three cultures whose own narratives parallel that of two 3100 Mile Runners. Shaun Martin, Navajo running legend, Gaolo-San a Kalahari Bushmen who runs and hunts and the Gyoman-san-Monks of Mt. Hiei Japan, who run not for glory but for spiritual enlightenment, universal oneness or because they simply have the responsibility to run.

There will be a question and answer with director Sanjay Rawal and 3100 runner Grahak Cunningham at the conclusion of the screening.
