Description

Yellow Brick Code is a fun, interactive school holiday program to be run during the next September school holidays. It is designed to introduce students aged 5-8 to the exciting world of computer science, while meeting new friends!

Over 3 full days, your child will learn skills in algorithmic thinking, programming and creative expression through stories, videos, hands on physical activities, games and fun programming challenges. Even if your child has never coded before, by the end of the course, your child will be able to show off the amazing skills and video games that they have created!

Why should I enrol my child in Yellow Brick Code school holiday code camps?

Besides being a really fun and different way to spend their school holidays, your child will make new friends while learning valuable skills and a language that will be vital for their future. As we know, with every language, you need to teach it to children as early as possible to allow for maximum fluency.

What should I pack in my child's bag?

- Ipad/ laptop and charger

- pencil case

- notebook

- a hat for outdoor play. Please also ensure your child has sunscreen applied before arriving.

- a morning tea snack, packed lunch and drink just as you would pack for their regular school lunch.

What time is drop off? pick up?

The sessions will begin at 9:00am. Drop off is available from 8.30am. Pick up is available from 3:30 - 4:30pm.

My child has never coded. Is this program suitable?

Yes! Your child will learn basic coding concepts using both online and offline activities and games. He or she will work through the program at their own pace.

My child has attended a coding class before. Will this still be useful?

Yes! Coding concepts can be applied again and again. There will be a number of open ended activities that will extend your child and keep them feeling engaged and challenged.

What will my child learn?

Your child will learn basic coding concepts, algorithmic thinking and problem solving. They will also learn to storyboard ideas which will develop literacy skills and creativity.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is plenty of parking on site. We suggest you use the car park located on Mephan Street, behind Freemasons.

The school is easily accessible via the 82 tram (stop in front of the Caltex and walk up Mephan Street) or the 223 bus.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes, please bring your ticket on the day for faster processing.

Why do I need to bring my own device?

As students will likely be familiar with using their own device, they can continue engaging with the program immediately and long after their experience finishes at Yellow Brick Code. You will also be able to see what your child has been able to achieve each day.

Should my child attend all three days?

Yes. The concepts introduced will build from the previous session.

What is the format of the day?

A typical day will consist of

8.30am - 9.00am: Dropoff and registration

9:00am - 10.30am: Kickoff with morning games and activities

10.30am -11.00am: Morning tea

11.00am - 12.30pm: The introduction of a new coding skill

12.30pm - 1:30pm: Supervised lunch and outdoor play

1:30 - 3:30pm: A coding challenge

3:30 - 4:30pm: Pickup

Can my child attend if they are older than 10 years old?

Our program was built to specifically cater to 5-10 year olds with little to no coding experience. If your child is older, has limited coding experience and is keen to join, please contact us on 1800 668 177 to discuss or email us at info@yellowbrickcode.com.au before signing up.

Who will look after my child?

We have a team of experienced and dedicated tutors from Spectrum Tuition who will facilitate and supervise the workshops. Will you provide food or snacks?

No. Due to food allergies, we ask that parents pack morning tea, lunch and a drink for their child.

What's the refund policy?

All sales are final. We don't offer any refunds unless required under Victorian consumer law.
