Event description

Description

Does your school claim that 'average' is good enough?

Of course not, but parents are told their child is 'doing fine' or that they will 'catch up next year'. What if a child is twice-exceptional (or '2e') instead? That without specific, targeted, intervention for the gifts and the difficulties they will remain at, or even sink below, 'average'?

This information evening will address what can be done to support the child who is able, or even gifted, but who potentially struggles with physical differences, ASD, reading, math, ADHD, mental health issues or other differences that make the academic system see them as merely 'average'.

Anne Jackson is a Co-Founder and Director of Education at Kids Like Us, a teacher, counsellor and parent. She holds two Master's degrees in Education (Gifted, and Special Education), as well as a Graduate Diploma in Counselling. Anne has found her way to working with twice-exceptional children through her own personal and professional story. As a mother of a "gifted-but-not-happy" son, Anne started on a journey to discover how to support him and on the way discovered that she herself was not an 'average C student who should work harder', but had been an incredibly bright child with a sever learning difficulty.
