The four-day Try a Trade program is an ideal introduction into a range of trades programs. The program is suitable for school leavers, those who are unemployed, those looking to change careers and recent migrants.
Delivered by trade professionals, the program provides the opportunity to understand the requirements for a career in a range of trades and what it’s like to be a tradie before committing to a full-time training course.
During the taster program you will learn basic skills that will help you to develop an understand of the wide range of work skills required in trades occupations.
The course includes:
- planning and organising work
- occupational health and safety work site basics and workplace communication skills
- understanding the study options and literacy and numeracy requirements
- exposure to industry professionals
- guidance to select a trade course.
As well as providing a pathway to an apprenticeship, the Try a Trade course can help prepare you for the workforce or allow you to improve existing skills.
A range of employers in Melbourne and Victorian are looking for apprentices. Working closely with our employer and industry networks, Swinburne Start can assist students who are enrolled in a Certificate II (Pre-apprenticeship) course to find apprenticeship employment.
We also run a similar program at our Croydon campus.
