2025 Murray–Darling Basin Outlook and Sustainable Yields
Overview
The Basin Outlook shows how climate change will intensify pressure on the Basin’s communities, First Nations people, the environment and industries.
The Sustainable Yields study indicates that temperatures will continue to rise steadily but the implications for rainfall across the Basin are less clear.
Overall, there will be challenges across the board, but there are opportunities for adaptation.
If you want to learn more, join us for a public webinar. We’ll explore the reports and answer your questions.
Date: Tuesday 16 December, 2025
Time: 10.00 am to 11.00 am AEST
Format: Online, Microsoft Teams
Please join MDBA General Manager for Science Acquisition, Dr Matthew Coleman and General Manager for Applied Science, Joel Bailey as they unpack the findings of these 2 milestone reports.
You will learn:
- how climate change will continue to affect the Basin's hydrology
- how we can both respond and adapt in the way we manage Basin water resources
- what the Sustainable Yields tells us about the plausible climate futures of the Basin
Both reports form lines of evidence for the 2026 Basin Plan Review.
The Review provides a pathway to improve the Basin Plan. We will be consulting with a range of disciplines and experts across all levels of government, First Nations peoples, industries, and communities to complete the review by the end of 2026.
