ASPERA and the University of Newcastle's School of Creative Industries proudly present the 2020 ASPERA Conference - The Business: Valuing the Screen Industry from 17-19 June, in the beautiful city of Newcastle.

The key aim of the conference is to encourage a fresh look at the value of the screen business – also known as ‘The Biz’ – from a range of perspectives, and explore how our research, our practice and our teaching contributes to the broader value of the Screen Industry.

THE SCHOOL OF CREATIVE INDUSTRIES

At the School of Creative Industries, we are animators, communicators, filmmakers, musicians, performers, artists, designers and so much more. Our precinct in the Newcastle CBD – comprised of NUspace, the Conservatorium of Music, University House and Watt Space Gallery – provides state-of-the-art facilities to more than 2,000 students. We deliver innovative experiences across design, film making, animation, music, journalism, dance, drama, games design, and art. Our School also offers music production suites, performing arts and visual communication spaces, and cutting-edge design and creative arts facilities.

ASPERA

Established in 2004, ASPERA is the peak discipline body of Australian tertiary institutions teaching and researching film, video, television and new media as screen-based production practices.

HOW TO GET HERE

Located 150km north of Sydney, Newcastle is easily accessible by car, plane, bus and train and is easy to get around thanks to a great range of local public transport options and taxis.

CAR - The four major highways that connect Newcastle to the rest Australia are the Pacific Highway, F3, New England Highway and the Golden Highway. The drive from Sydney to Newcastle is about 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on the time of day you travel and your exact departure location.

PLANE - Newcastle airport is serviced by Jetstar and Virgin Australia who both operate regular daily services from Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ballina, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. Located within half an hour of downtown Newcastle, the airport also offers direct shuttle transfers, car hire and taxi services.

RAIL - Newcastle is serviced by frequent daily return rail services from Sydney. The train terminates in Newcastle at Newcastle Interchange. Travel time by rail from Sydney to Newcastle is approximately three hours. To get from Newcastle Interchange to NUspace, just jump on the Light Rail (tram), which stops at Civic, right outside NUspace, or it’s a 15-20 minute walk along Honeysuckle.

CountryLink rail service also connects Newcastle to Brisbane, country New South Wales, Canberra and Melbourne.

COACH - There are a number of coach companies that operate throughout Australia which regularly connect to Newcastle. Greyhound is one of the most popular and operates from various locations between Brisbane and Sydney, stopping in Newcastle.

PARKING IN NEWCASTLE CITY - Street parking around NuSpace is limited to 2 hours and hard to find.
